Bronte Beach is undoubtedly one of Sydney’s best beaches. It is positioned south of Bondi Beach, between the Tamarama and Clovelly beaches and is a blend of rocky coastline, golden sands, ocean pool, parkland and local vibe. Bronte is a popular hangout year-round and draws a mixed crowed of locals, visitors, young families, seniors, city professionals, fitness buffs and even a few celebrities. You could call Bronte bit of a star in it’s own right as the cute and funny film ‘Long Story Short’ is mostly shot around Bronte.
Beautiful Sands
The beach itself faces East and is relatively small at 250m in length. Despite this, the summer and holiday seasons draw a big crowd, but it won’t have quite the same level of bustling crowds as Bondi beach. The atmosphere is always great at Bronte, but my absolute favourite time to visit, is the off-peak seasons, as below. These images were taken in May which is Autumn / Fall.

Surf’s Up!
Something for the surf enthusiasts. Bronte’s consistent swell and well-formed waves make it an excellent spot for beginners to intermediate and experienced surfers. There is a permanent rip on the far south and north, near the headland and the current can be strong with large waves, so be sure to check out the surf conditions before you go. If you’re new to the sport, you can sign up for a surf lesson with one of the local surf schools.

Bronte Park and Picnic Area
Bronte Park lays directly behind the beach and is the perfect spot for picnics with family and friends. The shaded areas and seating make it a popular choice for BBQs and group gatherings and the large grassy expanse is ideal for taking the dog, kicking a ball around, throwing a frisbee or for soaking up the sun, if you’re not in the mood for sand.

Coastal Walks
One of the standout features of Bronte is its stunning coastal walk which connects it to Bondi Beach to the north and Coogee Beach to the south. This scenic route takes you through the Bronte Park or along the beach’s promenade, offering panoramic views of the coastline, sandstone cliffs, and the Tasman Sea.
Bronte Rock Pool
I’ve always been fascinated with seaside pools and love the relaxing swimming environment with amazing views, ocean water and sea breeze. These pools are great for less confident swimmers or anyone wanting a break from the surf and often rough waves. It’s open all year round, except for when the conditions are too rough or it’s being cleaned (during the winter). The pool is about 30m long, 2m at the deep end and has steps into the sea.

Bogey Hole
Bogey hole is a shallow swimming area surrounded by rocks during mid-tide which is perfect for kids, as it creates a safe little, enclosed area. During high tide the rocks forming the barrier for the swimming area, disappears under the water and at low tide, there isn’t enough water to paddle in, so if you’ve got little ones, look up when there’s a mid-tide.
Facilities
You’ll find changing facilities, showers and toilets at the Surf Club (northern end) and near the rock pool at the southern end of the beach.

Safety
Australian and Sydney beaches are known for their rips (rip tide under currents) and strong surf. Always take care when swimming, swim between the flags (because these are the safest areas) and adhere to the surf life saver’s instructions. Like any other beach, surfing is not allowed between the flags. This is for swimmers only.

Bronte Food and Beverages
Bronte is home to a variety of cafes, restaurants, and boutiques. If you’re not doing the BBQ or picnic thing, then grab something from The Bogey Cafe which is a simple cafe with beach views, Cali Press – a Californian style sandwich, salad and juice bar, Bronte Road Bistro – a local favourite, Vacanza Bronte has great pizza by the beach and Iggy’s Bread is a must try artisanal bakery. These are just a few options to make sure you don’t go hungry or thirsty!
Unique to Bronte Beach
Bronte Beach has something that the other beaches don’t. At the north end you’ll find this interesting rock formation which hangs over the beach creating the perfect shade area for those extra hot days or when you’ve caught a little too much sun.

Events and Festivals
Throughout the year, Bronte hosts a range of community events and festivals. During your visit, take a look at the local calendar for activities like the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition at the end of October to early November, the Bronte to Bondi Ocean Swim in December and the Bronte Surf Lifesaving Club’s annual Christmas swim.

Getting there
The parking is quite limited around Bronte and the beach area. I’d recommend taking the bus…the 379 bus from Sydney Town Hall will get you there in about 30 -40 minutes. Another option if you like to walk is park at Clovelly carpark or start from Bondi and do the coastal walk to Bronte.
In my opinion, Bronte Beach in Sydney, Australia is well deserving of visit. Whether you’re a beach lover, a walking and nature enthusiast, a foodie Bronte has something to offer everyone. So, the next time you find yourself in Sydney, make sure to carve out some time to explore this charming coastal oasis. At the very least, get your walking shoes on for the Coastal Walk, which will take you through Bronte.
